Wyndham Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs Service

In the second half of 2008, the need for a preventative program in the area of Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) was identified in the City of Wyndham.  With funding from the Department of Health & Ageing (DOHA), Open Family Australia employed two AOD workers to establish the Wyndham Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (WYAODS).

The focus of WYAODS is the provision of counselling, education and prevention programs to decrease drug and alcohol use in young people between the ages of 12-25 who are living, working or studying in the City of Wyndham. Employing a harm minimisation approach, the service engages young people experimenting with alcohol and other drugs, their peers and their family to provide education on the harmful effects of the consumption of alcohol and other drugs.

The program also provides individual treatment plans and case management for young people already experiencing problematic substance use. WYAODS operates from the Youth Resource Centre in Hoppers Crossing and is complementary to Open Family Australia’s Outreach workers and local youth services operating in the region. DOHA is supporting the program for three years.

If you have any enquiries or would like to make a referral, please contact the WYAODS Counselling Team on 03 9742 8155.

Hours of operation:  Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm
